Health and Safety Failings
A construction company in Scotland has been forced to pay a £5,000 fine, after a sub-contractor fell 15 feet.
The injured worker fell when a youngman board (used to temporarily access the roof of a new building) slipped from under him, causing him to fall 15 feet onto the concrete floor below.
The worker sustained multiple fractures and a brain injury as a result of the fall.
They were found to have failed to; properly supervise the working at height, to ensure scaffold surrounded the full perimeter of the house under construction, and to ensure a suitable working platform and fall protection measures were in place.
It is crucial to remember the importance of both managing and controlling all aspects of Working at Height operations, ensuring that a Safe System of Work is in place.
