UPDATE: 103 Buckingham Avenue

Fire Doors, Fire Stopping and Fire and Smoke Dampers almost ready for Survey and Inspection in Slough

Notice

Due to the age of this post some of the information maybe out of date.

We are preparing our practical training facilities for hands-on practical demonstrations, designed to increase competency and give realistic representation of real-world scenarios faced by engineers and maintenance professionals.

Our new facility in Slough, 103 Buckingham Avenue, has been a hive of activity in recent weeks in the run up to our Fire Safety Conference and Exhibition at the end of the month.

Contractors from STJ Projects LTD, Air Projects LTD and Saracen Compliance have been busy installing our new Fire Doors, Fire and Smoke Dampers and Fire Stopping training aids, working closely with our own Facilities Manager, Maintenance team and Senior Fire Safety Training Consultant.

Fire and Smoke Damper Installation

Example installations of Fire and Smoke Dampers through a breeze block construction include:

  • Mechanical Curtain Damper with Fusible Link
  • Mechanical Curtain Damper with Spring Cassette Mechanism
  • Motorised Damper

Further examples through a stud wall installation will also be installed, as well as examples of other dampers available for closer inspection by delegates on any of our 1 day training courses.

Work in Progress - Fire and Smoke Dampers installed in breeze block wall.

Fire Stopping

Fire Stopping installations through breeze block walls have been completed, with our training facility sporting examples of appropriate Fire Stopping for:

  • Copper Pipe
  • Cable Trays
  • PP Pipe
  • Cables

These installations have been completed using fire resistant mastic, collars and caulking where appropriate.

Work in Progress - Fire Stopping installed in our survey and inspection area.

Fire Doors

The team from STJ Projects have delivered a variety of engineered fire safety solutions, designed for the three main areas highlighted within our mock-corridor. These single and double doors offer either 30 minute or 60 minute fire resistance. Our facility also houses an anti-barricade fire door, often found in mental health hospitals or correctional facilities.

The mock-corridor, as it does in York, will be used as a teaching aid as practical exercises will call for delegates to identify defects relating to the course subject matter. i.e. Fire Stopping issues within each area of the corridor.

The mock-corridor will be split into three main areas to represent:

  1. A typical hospital corridor
  2. Commercial office buildings
  3. Industrial warehouse units

Encompassing all areas of our fire safety training offering mentioned above, but also including Fire Detection and Alarm Systems and Escape Lighting.

Work in Progress - Only the finishing touches remain on our fire door installations.

Be Among The First To See It...

We are hosting our own CPD Certified conference and exhibition at our new facility across two days at the end of this month.

Each day, the centre will welcome delegates from different sectors within the wider Fire Safety world, with the first of the two days being geared towards Fire Safety in Commercial Properties.

Wednesday, 29th March 2023

On this day, we expect to welcome over 40 visitors to our centre, with representatives from leading facilities management organisations, large retail providers and members of leading universities estates and facilities teams to name a few.

Registration for this date is now closed.

Thursday, 30th March 2023

As was the case at our previous event in York, last November, the second of the two days will focus on Fire Safety in Healthcare Premises.

We are excited to welcome Fire Officers, Engineering Managers and Estates Managers from more of the UK's leading FM companies, as well as those working directly within NHS Trusts and Health Boards in England and Scotland.

We still have places remaining on this free, one day CPD Certified event, which will not only bring ample opportunity to network and share knowledge with the industry's leading fire safety professionals, but will also offer a chance to get hands-on with our new fire safety practical training facilities.

If you would like to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity, please register to attend this event by hitting the button below.
