Written Scheme of Control and Competency

Notice

Due to the age of this post some of the information maybe out of date.

The Dangers of Legionnaires’ Disease

The HSE states that:
“Legionellosis is a collective term for diseases caused by legionella bacteria
including the most serious legionnaires’ disease, as well as the similar but less
serious conditions of Pontiac fever and Lochgoilhead fever. Legionnaires’ disease
is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia and everyone is susceptible to infection.”

In recent years, large fines have been enforced on organisations across the healthcare, commercial and domestic sectors due to fatal incidents of Legionnaires’ Disease as a result of poorly managed hot and cold water systems.

The fact that these deaths and subsequent prosecutions are ultimately avoidable, highlights the importance of adequate training, delivered by competent professionals.

As such, PPL Training are pleased to offer our 1 day ‘Written Scheme of Control - Implementation of the Monitoring Requirements for Hot and Cold Water System’ course, at our York, Slough and Bathgate (Scotland) centres.

This course offers theory and practical based training, in-line with the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP L8) and HSG274 part 2. Whilst the legislation is aimed at Facilities Managers who may need to delegate tasks to caretakers and other duty holders across their site, the teachings of the course are particularly relevant to those working within maintenance, technician, building caretaker, and operator roles. The course also outlines the importance of various control measures, to be monitored and undertaken by the parties mentioned above. These include but are not limited to:

  • Regular flushing of little used outlets
  • The stripping and disinfection of shower heads
  • Checking of crucial tap water temperatures
  • Water sampling

Why choose PPL Training?

Competency is an essential element of any business.

The HSE defines competency as the combination of training, skills, experience and knowledge that a person has, and their ability to apply them to perform a task safely.

Within PPL Training, all of our trainers have been sourced from the right backgrounds to ensure that their competency benefits a delegate’s training experience, with the ability to put a respective requirement into the right context.
