Course Overview
This City & Guilds level 4 qualification will provide you with the knowledge and techniques required to professionally design, specify, install and test electrical installations. Attending this course will assist you, as an electrical contractor, to carry out your duties to meet appropriate legislation.

Who is This Course For?
Designed for electrical professionals, consultants and engineers who are responsible for the electrical design, specification, installation and testing process. For this advanced course it is recommended that delegates have previously attended the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and 2391 courses, without these qualifications you will find the course extremely challenging to undertake.

This is a great follow-on course for anyone wanting to up-skill and expand their electrical installation training to be able to design and verify electrical systems. Expanding your portfolio to include this level 4 qualification provides formal recognition of your skills and can provide new opportunities to progress into more specialist electrical work.

It is recommended that delegates have previously attended the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and 2391 courses.

  • Design of electrical installations including all necessary calculations
  • Design, verification and inspection of electrical installations in compliance with current safety legislation and BS7671
  • Verification that designs comply with the relevant regulations
  • Conduct of an initial verification of a new electrical installation
  • Guidance and support to assist completion of a 40 hour design project
Prior to attending this course we recommend you have completed the following or their equivalent and possess:
18th Edition Wiring Regulations | City & Guilds 2382-18 Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations | City & Guilds 2391-52
Background knowledge and experience working within an Electrical role (strongly recommended).
Photographic ID - This can be in the form of: Passport, Driving Licence, CSCS Card, Work ID Card, Trade Union Card, Proof of Age Card
Books / Manuals - You are permitted to bring the following book into the exam: IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition (BS7671:2018) Amendment 2 2022 brown book (we can provide working copies for use during the course)

Q: How do I book the exam for this course?
A: We can arrange your exam booking however you will need to ensure you inform us a minimum of 6 weeks prior to the exam taking place.
Q: Am I required to complete the 40 hour exam over the week that we are in-centre?
A: The course is Monday to Friday with all of the classroom learning and theory covered Monday to Thursday then the Friday is spent looking at the 40 hour project which delegates leave the course with and do this in their own time. You have 12 months to complete the project.
Q: When can I book the exam to make sure I get the best slot available for my course date?
A: The space will be booked for you on the nearest date after you have completed the 5 day course.
Q: What is the exam success rate for your centres and this course?
A: Our centre runs at approximately a 35% pass rate which is above the national average.
Q: If I fail the exam and require a resit, do I have to do the full course again, or can I just do the exam?
A: The exam is a 3 hour unassisted written paper. If a resit is needed this can be booked through your PPL Training Account Manager.
Q: What is the next step for me after completing the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations | City & Guilds 2396 (2396) qualification?
